Picasso-inspired soft sculptures

Art II students began making soft sculptures out of fabric. They looked at paintings by famous Spanish artist Pablo Picasso to inspired their designs. Picasso  is known for showing multiple perspectives simultaneously in his drawings and paintings and for using lots of bold lines and bright colors. The students began by making sketches on newsprint (below), which they will later transfer to cotton fabric, paint, sew, and stuff. More photos coming later this week!

Art II figure drawing week 4

In figure drawing last week, students practiced shading the contours of a piece of fabric to learn how to accurately draw clothing:

We then experimented with blind contour sketches of faces and hands:

Finally, students drew one pose in four different ways (gesture, blind contour, scribble drawing, and finally a detailed rendering including shading):

AP students meet in the art room at 11:30am on Friday, May 9th to submit your portfolios.

Middle school art room update!

Last week, seventh graders worked on shading pop cans. They are learning a lot about representing light and shadow:

AP Important Info!

AP Studio Art students,

If you ARE submitting your portfolio for a score:

1. Your website must be completed (including labels of medium and dimensions for each image and an edited Commentary) by MONDAY, MAY 5th at the latest. If you finish before this date, let me know so I can double check it and then submit it to the CollegeBoard.

2. You must select FIVE pieces to send in for your Quality section. These may be a combination of pieces from your Breadth and Concentrations sections (or can be all from Concentration). They must be smaller than 18x24!! Get these pieces to me by THURSDAY, MAY 1st so we have time to mat them.

3. You MUST be present FRIDAY, MAY 9th at 11:40 am to finish completing any paperwork before we send your portfolios off.


If you are NOT submitting your portfolio for a score:

1. You are under the same deadline as the rest of the AP class, and your grade will depend on meeting this deadline. However, do not worry about photographing and uploading images to the website anymore. Instead, bring ALL your finished pieces to me by class time on FRIDAY, MAY 9th for a grade. (*If your work is photography, you must have your photos in class either on a flash drive, saved to the school server, or printed hard copies for me to see.)

ALL AP STUDENTS:
On Monday, May 5th, report to block 2 as normal. At 11:30am, we will be moving to another location. Just a head's up!
